Rosemary has various pharmacological effects including anti-inflammatory and antioxidant. Terpenes and terpenoids in rosemary cause blood vessel dilatation, improvement in peripheral blood flow and better nutrition of hair follicles. In human, topical use of rosemary essential oil improves blood circulation, which is due to its specific effects on the skin.

In a research study, 84 patients with Alopecia areata were divided into a test group (43 individuals) and a control group (41 individuals). The test group massaged for two minutes on to their skin once every evening a combination of essential oils, mainly rosemary, in a carrier oil. The control group massaged on to their skin, every night for 2 minutes, only the carrier oils. The success rate of the treatment was followed up by two dermatologists separately, using series of pictures. The duration of the treatment was 7 months and the improvement was assessed in the 3rd and the 7th months. The rate of improvement was assessed using the two methods of 6-point scale and computational analysis of the regions affected by alopecia. Based on the results, 19 individuals in the test group (44%) and 6 individuals in the control group (15%) showed improvement (p=0.05). The researchers came to the conclusion that the use of rosemary is a safe and effective treatment for Alopecia areata and the treatment with these essential oils is considerably more effective than the carrier oils.

Furthermore, in another study, men of 18 to 49 years of age with male-pattern androgenic baldness in accordance with stage II, III and IV of Hamilton scale, were randomly divided into the herbal product containing rosemary essential oil group (34 individuals) or minoxidil 2% group (33 individuals). They were asked to apply 1 ml of the solutions using an applicator twice a day (morning and night) on the affected areas and avoid washing for 2 hours. The studied individuals were examined for the clinical manifestations, efficacy and side effects at the beginning, in the 3rd month and the 6th month. After collection of data, they were analyzed using t-test and X2. Based on the results of this study, both products were separately efficacious, and minoxidil was not superior the herbal product containing rosemary essential oil.

Due to its antioxidant, rejuvenating, and moisturizing properties, vitamin E is a popular ingredient in cosmetic and self-care products. Various studies have shown a correlation between oxidative stress and hair loss. Individuals suffering hair loss usually have less antioxidants in the skin of their scalp and lipid peroxidation factor is higher in them. Tocotrienols are members of vitamin E family and are considered strong antioxidants, and based on the results of a clinical trial, they can increase the number of hair strands in individuals suffering hair loss.

Hazelnut oil is also used in this product, which contains a high amount of alpha-tocopherols, and having antioxidant effects, is effective in prevention of hair loss. Based on the results of a study, among all the nuts assessed, almond and hazelnut oil contained the highest amount of alpha-tocopherols (24.2 and 31.4 in every 100 grams of oil, respectively).

For the hair, twice a day (morning and night), each time spray 7 puffs of the product on the intended region, and massage mildly with fingertips for 2 minutes.

For the eyebrows, twice a day, each time spray one puff of the product on a cotton ball or pad, apply to the eyebrows and massage briefly.
